THE NEED FOR HOUSING
Robin’s Home is a supportive housing program that is specifically for female veterans and their children. There are currently no organizations in Butler VA Health System catchment area that provides housing with case management and peer support to this population. In the past four years, there have been 30 female veterans in Butler County that needed housing. Most of these families are “couch surfing” or living in their cars. Sadly, this is an issue across our country, and current data tells us that female veterans are the fastest growing segment of homeless veterans. The Department of Housing and Urban Developments data shows that approximately 5,000 female veterans were homeless in 2017 in the U.S., and that figure is expected to rise.
